Keep your UK number while you use an eSIM
You keep your UK number when you travel with an eSIM. Your phone uses two lines at once: the UK SIM for calls and texts, the eSIM for data.
Set up two lines
Install the eSIM before you leave. Your phone then shows two lines: label them, for example, UK and Travel.
Use the eSIM for data
In your mobile data settings, choose the travel line for data and turn data roaming on for it. Leave the UK line on for calls and texts.
Keep the UK line for calls and texts
Switch data roaming off on the UK line, so it only handles calls and texts. Texts, including your bank's security codes, keep arriving on your UK number.
Messaging and calling apps
WhatsApp, FaceTime and similar apps run over the eSIM's data, so they keep working with your usual account.
Coming home
Switch mobile data back to your UK line. You can delete the travel eSIM once its plan has ended.
